Maxwell Plarr is a motivated, professional, articulate, and dedicated individual to his career with the Christopher Newport University Varsity Sailing Program.

His experience as a graduate of the team, assistant coach and now head coach for the past four seasons has provided him with a significant background and understanding of the sport of collegiate sailing.

Coach Plarr has a deep involvement with the teams and coaching staff in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association as he is also the South Regional Director of MAISA.  "The best part of my job is giving back to the future and development of the nation's best and brightest minds in the sport of sailing. I strive to represent CNU in a positive light both on and off the water and it is my pursuit that my student athletes do the same."

Beyond College Sailing

Max Plarr has also raced on the professional sailing circuit in England and Australia.

Max is also a published yachting historian.  His article: Yachting Diplomacy, sheds a new light on how the United States and the United Kingdom utilized the America's Cup and other international nineteenth century yacht races to manipulate political policy and create nationalism.  Plarr lives in Newport News, Virginia.
